Ten Lovely Ways To Show Mum You Love Her On Mother's Day
by Colleen Moulding

For a gift that will last, what about planting some rose bushes in the garden for her, or delivering them ready planted in containers.
Even if Mum has only a tiny balcony or yard you can get patio roses meant for growing in tubs. If you add to the collection each Mother's Day and birthday she will soon have a whole rose garden of love.

One day workshops can be a great way to spend a lovely day together. What does Mum love to do? Paint watercolours, arrange flowers, make soft furnishings, learn desktop publishing? Local colleges often run this kind of thing. They say it's more fun with a friend, it would be fabulous with your daughter!

Organize a photograph of all her Grandchildren together. Then get it framed and if it needs to be hung on the wall arrange for someone in the family to do that too.

Arrange for a year long subscription to a magazine you know she would love to have drop through her letterbox every week or month but probably wouldn't treat herself to. Perhaps to do with a hobby such as cross stitching, gardening, food or interior design.

Visit with chocs or flowers on Mother's Day but promise to come back and give her a hand with any jobs she may be finding a little more difficult these days. Could be decluttering cupboards, giving the flower borders a good weeding, cleaning all the light fittings or giving something a coat of paint.

Bake her a cake. Serve it up on a doily on a raised dish if you can find one, and make dainty sandwiches too for a lovely Mother's Day tea. Spend time together, looking through old photographs, drinking a bottle of wine, sharing a box of chocs, giving her the gift of your time.

Buy her a boxed set of her favourite tv show on DVD or video with strict instructions to put her feet up and eat chocs or ice cream and enjoy a whole evening of relaxation.

Use your computer to design and print out a poem, then either frame it or roll it into a scroll and tie with ribbon. Use a cream or pastel background colour for a gift any Mother would treasure.

Write her a letter. In a letter or in a lovely hand made card write about happy times you've had that are down to Mum. Think of childhood parties she arranged for you,
holidays she saved up for, or just walks picking flowers from a hedge or feeding a stray cat you brought home.

Put together a gift basket especially for Mum. A novel by her favourite author, her favourite perfume, tickets for an outing you will go on together, sachets of hot chocolate, her favourite biscuits and chocolates all packed in a pretty basket on top of a beautiful scarf or shawl then wrapped in cellophane and decorated with a huge floppy bow.
